The biggest trade show in Canada kicks off in Regina this week.

The opening ceremony for the 38th Farm Progress Show is Tuesday evening with events and exhibits open Wednesday showing off the latest innovations in farming technology.

Every hotel room in the city is sold out; 45,000 people are expected to attend the Farm Progress Show. An extra 100 rooms are being used at the University of Regina with overflow in Moose Jaw.

“We have 350 more hotel rooms this year than we did last year and we filled them all,” said show manager Shirley Janeczko.

The show is also attracting 500 international buyers representing 47 countries around the world from South Africa to Australia to China. These people come to see the equipment related to precision seeding, which results in a greater output by placing every seed at the right depth and spacing.

This is the second year that construction of the new stadium has taken up space but Janeczko said it hasn’t been a huge concern. They’ve opened up additional space on the west side of the property for exhibits that wasn’t being used before.

“The construction site is a fantastic tourist attraction. I mean, people come and they sit in their cars and they watch that,” she said.

The Farm Progress Show runs from June 17-19 at Evraz Place. You can find more information at the Farm Progress Show website.
