Pilon’s NHL draft dreams expected to come true this weekend
Duck Lake’s Ryan Pilon says hearing his name called at the NHL draft is something he has dreamed of ever since he picked up a hockey stick.
The18-year-old defenceman will live that dream this weekend in Florida.
“Obviously seeing some buddies go through it last year and prior years, it’s an exciting time and actually being in Florida, it’s definitely surreal. I’m just really looking forward to it, you know every kid playing hockey it’s their dream to get called by an NHL team (at the draft), with it finally being here, it’s very humbling.”
The first-round selection, third overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 2011 WHL Draft was pegged as a “can’t miss” prospect. However, his time in Lethbridge was rife with adversity. An injury limited his playing time as a 16-year-old rookie to 57 games.
