Fire Hazard Update – June 28

FIRE HAZARDS PERSIST IN NORTHERN SASKATCHEWAN
Travel not recommended in La Ronge area; fire ban in place for all of northern Saskatchewan; fireworks prohibited.

Due to extreme wildfire hazards in northern Saskatchewan, the Ministry of Environment is recommending no non-essential travel to the La Ronge area.

There is no immediate threat to the Town of La Ronge. The communities of Wadin Bay, Sucker River, English River, Nemeiben and Weyakwin are under evacuation.

Highway access in these areas may change rapidly. For information about highway and road closures, please visit the Highway Hotline at hotline.gov.sk.ca.

The La Loche area in northwest Saskatchewan is experiencing smoke from Saskatchewan and Alberta fires. Individuals with high-risk health conditions are recommended for evacuation.

As of Sunday, June 28, there are 121 active fires in the province; 52 are greater than 100 hectares. There have been 505 wildfires this season compared to 183 in 2014. Please visit the Daily Wildfire Report for updated information.

A fire ban has been issued until further notice. No open fires are permitted in all provincial forest or provincial parks and recreation sites located within these forests. Please visit the Fire Ban page for more information.
