Couple shaken after witnessing Regina abduction

Jun 29, 2015 | 1:15 PM

A Regina woman went from sitting in her living room to trying to save a man from being abducted on Thursday.

Christina Christensen was in her fourth-floor apartment with her boyfriend just after 11 p.m. when they heard odd sounds outside; a “frantic, funny” sound.

She and her boyfriend went to the balcony to see what was going on, and Christensen said they saw a white van and several people wearing black hoodies.

“The side door was open and you could see that there was a bunch of guys trying to, or a bunch of people, trying to push a struggling person, who was really, really fighting.”

Christensen said she and her boyfriend started shouting at them, along with a man on the second floor, but she said the people didn’t stop. So they decided to run out, in their bare feet, to help the victim.

“I was just sick all the way down, I was saying, like ‘this person is gone, like going to be a goner’ because they were so ruthless, you know?”

She said by the time they got down to the parking lot, the victim was already inside the van. Her boyfriend ran to block the van’s path to get out, but Christensen said the van just drove out over the curb.

She said her boyfriend told her there was duct tape, a flip-flop, and a box of what looked like rubber gloves where the van had been.

“Then I ran down the parking lot, and I was just frantic. And I went to this balcony and said ‘phone 911.’”

Christensen said the police arrived and took their statements.

She said she’s lived there for a year, and nothing like this has happened before.

“It’s never been a scary place, I’ve never, ever felt unsafe here,” she said.

“That night after my boyfriend left … I hung door chimes on my front door. I just felt different about the place.”

According to police, a 20-year-old man was abducted from Gordon Road in Harbour Landing on Thursday night. He showed up later in hospital with head injuries.

Christensen said she’s glad the victim is OK.
