Counselling Services Building Dedicated to Foundress of Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross

Jeannette Eddolls, chairperson and volunteer for eleven years with the counselling services was overcome with emotion.  She shared how words could not express how much the gift was appreciated.

Sr. Blanchette described Adèle as someone who had a love of children and concern for the poor.  She saw health care and education as a means to help the poor.  Together with the parish priest, they organized an association for their charity work, the Daughters of St. Vincent de Paul, later known as the Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross. 

As the foundation grew, the Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross opened five convents and opened a second hand store. 

In 1944, the sisters travelled to the Prince Albert Diocese to begin a house for the elderly in Marcelin.  Bishop Leo Blais requested them to build in Prince Albert.  The residence exists today as the Mont St. Joseph Care Home. 

Sr. Alice LeClaire, St. Therese LeClaire and Sr. Marie Raiwet then presented a cheque to Catholic Family Services in the amount of $500,000.

Upon being asked how a lay woman could found a religious order, Sr. Alice explained she tells people Adèle did what she felt she needed to do. 

“She was a very religious woman. She would be glad we are giving our money to this organization, it would make her happy.”

Bishop Albert Thévenot, M. Afr. said that God is always present when extending our hands to those who are in need, as the services provided by CFS. 

Zurowski and Eddolls accepted the cheque on behalf of the organization.

“As a sign of our gratitude, we are renaming our offices after the Sisters of the Lady of the Cross foundress, Adèle de Murinais.  It really has provided our agency with a solid home.  It’s a super generous gift.”
