Raiders take Game 1 in Everett
Two of the most dominant teams in the WHL. The two top teams at the end of the regular season. Two teams incredibly similarly built teams with different paths through the playoffs.
Finally, the Prince Albert Raiders and the Everett Silvertips met for Game 1 of the WHL Finals on Friday night in Everett. After surrending an early lead, a big second period for the Raiders boosted them to a 4-2 win in Game 1.
With their hometown fans at their back, the Silvertips took the early momentum game when Matias Vanhanen behind the net centred it for Carter Bear, and he onetimed it into the back of the net at 6:07. A lengthy review came afterwards for a high stick earlier in the play, but ultimately it was ruled a good goal, and the Silvertips got a second pop from their hometown crowd.
After that, the Raiders were hit with two penalties during the period. The Raiders killed the first one off with relative ease, and the second one carried over to the second period with over a minute left.
