Klassic Kruizers ready to roll into Prince Albert

Aug 7, 2015 | 6:58 AM

The Klassic Kruizers Kar Klub is gearing up for their annual car show in the Northern Lights Casino parking lot on Friday.

The club has been around since 1988 and still retains some of its original membership.

Alan Huber is among those who started the club.

“I’ve always been interested in cars,” said Huber. “You know, growing up in the 60’s we drove a lot of these cars.”

The club began as a couple people with a passion for their classic cars meeting in a garage, Huber explained.

Twenty-seven years later, the club has 38 members and a lot more vehicles.

Huber has three cars he shows himself, a 1956 Ford Parklane station wagon, a 1964 Starliner and a 1959 Vauxhall that he has recently restored.

“You always find people that, you know, had cars just like that,” said Huber. “In some cases they weren’t exactly like that but they sort of remember them as being like it. You know, people admire them, people appreciate them.”

Huber said the cars often bring up feelings of nostalgia.

“People remember the cars, they remember riding in them and they remember different things they did with them and travelling.”

Klassic Kruizers president Les Nemish said the event has grown over the years.

“It’s been a small venue to begin with,” said Nemish. “As the years have gone the interest in our club has grown. We’ve now taken over the north part of the parking lot which pretty much fills up every spot that’s available.”

Nemish said last year, 283 cars were registered for the show, a record number for the event.

“It’s open to anybody across western Canada, if they’re driving by and they’ve got a car of interest they’re welcome.”

Registration will start at 3 p.m. on Friday. Nemish said he encourages all car-enthusiasts to bring along their vehicles.

The Klassic Kruizers Kar Klub will be raising money for charities in the community through sales at their concession.
