Dreams coming true for Gavel at Parapan Am Games
In the fall of 2012, Prince Albert’s Erica Gavel suffered a micro-fracture on her left knee that required her third knee surgery in a three-year period. Doctors told her that she wouldn’t be able to run again and that her CIS basketball career with the Saskatchewan Huskies was over.
But that didn’t mean she had to give up the game she loved.
Gavel was determined to take that seemingly overwhelming negative and turn it into a positive.
After tons of training learning a new form of basketball, Gavel now finds herself on the Canadian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team currently performing at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games this week.
