PA Ex. opens its doors for new and old patrons

The Prince Albert Exhibition Association has been around over 100 years but they’re inviting people to come experience the grounds for the first time, again.

The PA Ex. will be hosting an open house on Sept. 30 in the hopes of showing off what the grounds have to offer.

The event will have live entertainment, kennel agility trials, food and beverages and several groups and clubs on site who use the grounds on a regular basis.

PA Ex. Association general manager Chris West said the open house will help kick start other events that will take place on the grounds in the future.

“Because we have so many facilities, we can tailor to anyone,” West said. “I think it’s just to show people that we are the heart of the city.”

Facilities like the log cabin and the octagon house are used by several clubs as their home base. Besides the main hall, the exhibition also has the East-West halls that are able to host events.

On top of that the Grandstand, Optimist Centre, barns, and show rings are also available to the public.

“We have all the facilities that are right here to use so I’d like to bring it back,” said PA Ex. event specialist Sherry Ouellette. “It’s important and we can get some money raised and help fix up the facilities that are there now.

“This is our city. Let’s do something for it, so if you come down and support these events, then there’s going to be the proceeds to be able to help refurbish – to build it back up,” Ouellette said.

With West only taking on his new role a few months ago, he said the open house is also an opportunity for people to meet him.

“Because I’m new, I just wanted to bring awareness to the PA Ex. and that’s why our slogan is, ‘Come and see us for the first time,’” West said. “I started the position July 2, and then we had the fair three weeks after so that was a big learning curve, but I’m very excited about the future of this organization.”

The Sept. 30 open house will start at 6 p.m. and will conclude with fireworks at 9 p.m.
