Silvertips sink Raiders with second period surge
The Everett Silvertips broke open a tight scoreless defensive struggle with four goals in the first 8:02 of the second period on their way to a 5-2 win over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders.
Noah Juulsen’s power play point blast started the onslaught just :32 into the middle frame. Saskatoon product Carson Stadnyk followed up on assisting on the Juulson goal by scoring a power play marker of his own with a snap shot into the top corner on Raider rookie goalie Ian Scott moments after the 16 year old made a sensational save on a back door feed. Dawson Leedahl’s deflection just 10 seconds later made it 3-0 Silvertips and Stadnyk finished off a two on one break less than five minutes later closing out a super second period for the Saskatoon skater who had two goals and two assists in the middle frame.
The Silvertips who also held the Raiders to just 7 shots on goal through the first 40 minutes extended the lead to 5-0 on Matt Fonteyne’s power play snipe at 6:21 of the third period.
However the Raiders caught fire in the final frame pouring 20 shots on goal including Matteo Gennaro’s first goal of the season with a toe drag an snap shot past Everett goalie Carter Hart at 11:29 with Simon Stransky solving the Silvertip goalie potting a power play rebound five minutes later. Hart stopped three breakaways and a point blank attempt by Raider captain Tim Vanstone before the Gennaro goal.
