Reid to the rescue; Gardiner scores late to steal win for Raiders
The Prince Albert Raiders were 1:30 away from dropping their third straight game, but Reid Gardiner had other ideas.
Facing a 2-1 deficit to the Calgary Hitmen in the dying moments of Wednesday’s game, Gardiner pulled the Raiders out of the fire. With the goalie pulled, Gardiner scored the tying goal with 1:11 left in the game and added on the game winner 25 seconds later to steal an important win, 3-2 over the Hitmen.
The win stops the Raiders mini-winless streak, after they went 0-1-1 on the weekend.
“It’s probably one of the bigger wins of the year to be honest,” said Gardiner. “To come away with two points when we were down with two minutes left down a goal, to win it in regulation is something pretty cool.”
