P.A. Chaplain reaching out to city’s French community

Nov 6, 2015 | 10:44 AM

There is something new being offered for Prince Albert’s French community.

Charles Kahumbu, who has been the Chaplain at Saskatchewan Penitentiary for the past year, wants to create the city’s first French ministry.

“We will do it first as a prayer meeting but in French,” he said.

The inter-faith prayer meetings will be held Friday nights at the Messiah Lutheran Church on 15th Ave. E.

Kahumbu said if there is enough interest after three to six months, they will look at expanding to a French ministry.

“It is not a denominational prayer meeting, it’s inter-faith and all Christians can come who speak French or are bilingual,” he said.

Kahumbu said there has not been a huge amount of interest, to date, but he has had a few phone calls of support.

The prayer meetings will run from 6 to 7 p.m.

Kahumbu has been living in Prince Albert for a year with his wife. Prior to working in Prince Albert, he worked in Winnipeg and Flin Flon, Man.
