Bylaw changes affect pet owners, business owners and students

Another amendment to the bylaw affects home based business owners.

Rather than saying no signs allowed in residential neighbourhoods, the city will allow a home based business owner to have one sign (no bigger than six sq. feet.) on their property, either in the window or on the front lawn.

Administration did suggest there would be some flexibility, and the bylaw would be reviewed in the future.

Sask Polytechnic students who have been parking for free in the lot on 10th Ave. E will soon have to pay to park there.

City council has passed a motion that will require students to pay $60 a month to park in the lot.

City Manager, Jim Toye said it falls in line with what other cities are doing, and the city feels this could generate some extra revenue.

The change will take effect on Jan. 1.

Pet owners in Prince Albert are being further encouraged to license and micro-chip their pets.

The impoundment fee for cats and dogs has now gone up to $50.

There is now also a $15 care and sustenance fee (plus goods and services tax) per day or a portion thereof commencing at 12 a.m. on the day immediately following the day of impoundment.
