Man in custody following attempted murder at local business

Mar 11, 2019 | 12:06 PM

Local police have charged a 57-year-old man with attempted murder and aggravated assault following a stabbing at a business early Saturday morning.

Mike Wytosky made his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court Monday morning. Wytosky is charged in connection with an incident at the Co-op gas bar and convenience store at the corner of Marquis Road and Fifth Avenue East.

A release from the Prince Albert Police Service said officers were called for a complaint of an assault just after 7 a.m. Saturday. A 48-year-old woman was taken to hospital in stable condition suffering from stab wounds.

Police say the victim and the accused know each other and the incident is not believed to be random. Wytosky was remanded in custody and will make his next court appearance March 18.

In an emailed statement interim CEO for Lake Country Coop, Tim Keller said:

We are aware of the incident that occurred at one of our locations on Saturday morning. We are conducting a thorough internal investigation and are committed to helping all affected Team Members. Our concern going forward is with all of the affected Team Members’ well-being, privacy and the on-going legal process.

Thank-you for the outpouring of support from the community during this challenging time.
