The Prince Albert Mintos had quite the opening game of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs on Sunday in Saskatoon. Despite being underdogs in the 3rd-6th place matchup, the Mintos came away with a 7-6 victory over the Saskatoon Blazers.

The Mintos actually had a 5-0 lead through the first 37 minutes of play, but the Blazers were able to storm back and tie it 5-5.

Mintos forward Blake Duquette broke the deadlock with a power play with five minutes left. Then with the Blazers net empty, Gavin Ingram scored a shorthanded goal to put the Mintos ahead 7-5.

That turned out to be the game-winning goal, as the Blazers scored with 18 seconds left to come within one goal. Ingram led the way for the Mintos, as he had two goals and an assist.

Raiders prospect defenceman Nolan Allan went nuts for the Blazers, scoring two goals and five points in the game. Both goals and four of those points came in the third period. Fellow Raider prospect and Blazer forward Cole Nagy had an assist.

On the Mintos side, Raiders prospect Cohner Saleski had a goal and two assists for the Mintos.

Both teams will meet for Game 2 at the Art Hauser Centre, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
