Organizers happy with winter festival

The 2019 Prince Albert Winter Festival wrapped up Sunday evening.

The last of the festivities were held at the Alfred Jenkins Field House and ranged from a trade show to the King Trapper events, which saw competitors take on a number of challenges including axe throwing and animal calling.

A number of the events took place outside of the Field House including the dog sled races. Bev Erickson, treasurer for the winter festival, said that event garnered a lot of attention despite the cold temperatures.

“I know that the horse sleighs did not quit moving yesterday and they were full going both ways to the dog sleds and back, so I think a lot of people really took advantage of that opportunity,” she said.

A craft and trade show saw just over 90 vendors come and set up, selling items ranging from winter wear to different kinds of art.

Erickson added this year’s festival saw a large number of people from the community getting involved by doing things like selling 50/50 tickets and helping to run some of the shows.

“We’ve had a record number of volunteers this year,” she said.

Erickson said this year’s turnout was also impressive.

“For the weather being so cold, it’s been very successful. We sold over 900 buttons at the door yesterday, so we had a full house, the kids zone was full, fish fry did really well,” she said.
