4-H Charity steer auction wrangles large sum for Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) Family Room at the Victoria Hospital is getting ‘beefed’ up thanks to the fundraising efforts of local 4-H clubs and the Prince Albert Exhibition Association.

The RMH was this year’s choice of charity of the 2019 4-H Charity Steer Auction in conjunction with the 4-H Finished Beef and Show sale – a total of almost $15,000 was raised through fundraising efforts.

“The generosity of the different farmers was incredible and the support of the whole 4-H community, it was such a heart-warming evening,” Karen Linsley, fund development director at Ronald McDonald House Charity Saskatchewan said. “The support of all those in attendance was very much appreciated.”.

Rob Ross, president of the P.A. Exhibition Association told paNOW in a previous interviewthat the auctions’ ‘star steer,’ had been donated back multiple times in past years, it was no different this time around.

The event raised $11,386.00 in ticket sales and the dutch auction and was won by Dean and Jackie Manson. They donated the steer back for resale, which Northern Livestock sales purchased for $2114.00. Northern Livestock sales donated it again for resale and it was bought by Gateway Veterinary Clinic for $1,426.95. A total amount of 14,926.95 was raised.

That money will support local families as they use the Family Room at the Victoria Hospital, Karen Linsley explained how the Family Room and its services help out.

“What that does is it provides nutritious snacks and meals for the families, crafts, and programming. A comfortable place for families to come while their child is receiving medical treatment in the hospital,” Linsley said. “They can come have a shower, do their laundry, it’s a really comfortable place where families can have reprieve from the hospital room, but be close to their child.”

RMH charity was chosen as this years’ recipient of funding after a local member involved with 4-H stayed at the Ronald McDonald House.

The Wild Rose, West P.A., Weldon, Canwood and Torch River 4-H Clubs were all involved with the event.
