Youth volunteers contributed 6,779 hours of service at the Victoria Hospital, Herb Bassett Home and Pineview Terrace this school year.

The significant involvement was recognized Wednesday by the Saskatchewan Health Authority through a Youth Volunteer Recognition and Awards program.

According to the Volunteer Services Department at the Victoria Hospital, 115 registered youth volunteers gave their time, energy and talents to the patients and residents at the three facilities. Among them was Ayden Holodniuk, a Grade 9 student at Meath Park Public School and Shanelle Sewap-Custer, a Grade 11 student from Carlton Comprehensive Public High School. They were recognized with a Lions’ Club International Gold Certificate for their exceptional 100-hour volunteer service. The Lions’ Club also awarded $125 bursaries to graduating students Stephen Acorn and Jaycie Poulliot.

Kyla Mangaser, Carl James Sy, Sofia Jose and Mallie Poulin-Vandale received $500 Victoria Hospital Auxiliary Youth Volunteer Bursaries. McKenna Miller, Kayla Abrametz, Cheryllynn Bauer and Alyssa Patrick received $400 bursaries.

Ashim Dhital and Jaelyn Prediger were the recipients of the Hannah and Hudson Youth Volunteer Bursaries, each taking home $500.

More than half of all the volunteers contributed 50 hours of service.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is currently recruiting for a number of positions to help cover students away for the summer and other volunteers on vacation.
