Farmers’ Market kicks off

The Prince Albert Farmers’ Market is up and running for another season.

Just over ten vendors were set up in the parking lot of City Hall on Saturday morning, offering items ranging from produce to furniture.

Cassie Tenkink is a vendor and is also in charge of marketing for the group. From what she saw, Tenkink said it was clear many vendors had been hard at work over the winter preparing for the start of the season.

“I am actually very happy with how many vendors showed up today, just because of the May long weekend,” she said.

Tenkink said favourable weather conditions also added to a strong turnout.

“I would say it’s amazing … the wind is always something we have to contend with, so vendors have learned to strap down their tents for sure and we’re just happy it’s not raining or snowing,” she said.

There are generally fewer vendors at the market for the first few weeks of the season. In the summer, customers can expect an increased variety when those selling fruits and vegetables come on to the scene.

This year, the market will be welcoming some new vendors and will also have extended hours during the Street Fair in June.

“So that’s a big thing for us. We’ll be staying for the duration of Street Fair, which we’ve never really done before,” she said.

The Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday from now until mid October in the City Hall parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m..
