The Premier of Saskatchewan said kids dream of the sort of night the P.A. Raiders on Monday, himself included.

Scott Moe watched much of the Raiders’ dramatic WHL title-winning game via live-stream, including the winning goal in overtime.

“This is Western Junior Canadian hockey at its finest, the Raiders came out victorious, and who could be happier?” he told paNOW.” I grew up playing hockey and just to cheer this team on, watch them have the season that they did …to win late in overtime in game 7; what a great run, great season and great outcome.”

Moe, the MLA for Rosthern-Shellbrook, watched the previous championship winning team as a boy back in the 1980s. He also attended Raider hockey school.

“I dreamed of playing for the Raiders one day,” he recalled. “Obviously that didn’t happen, I wasn’t quick enough on my feet …but I have really fond memories of watching the great teams in the 80s and of interacting with other kids at the hockey school in the summer.”

Moe also had thoughts for the Raider’s gallant opponents who made the extraordinary game 7 and the entire series a memorable spectacle.

“Hats off to the Vancouver Giants too. What a classy and great team,” he said, noting they’ll likely have another year of success. “ They have a number of great young players like the Raiders do.”
