Man responsible for shooting sentenced 3.5 years

The man who orchestrated a shooting in Prince Albert earlier this year, will serve prison time.

Cameron Morin, 20, appeared at Prince Albert Provincial Court Friday morning, in connection with the shooting that happened April 3.

According to court documents, two people went to a house in the 400 block of 28th Street East. The woman who answered the door, was faced with a 22 caliber hand gun. She quickly backed away from the door, but was soon after shot several times in the leg.

Morin did not pull the trigger, but has claimed responsibility for the incident.

The victim testified in court that she and the accused had been friends, and she was shot over a drug debt.

“Not sure how this happened over $200 … it was over $200,” she said, with tears in her eyes.

She told the judge she continues to have nightmares, and fears anyone dressed in black. She also said she was forced to leave the city after the incident.

Morin is already in custody for drug trafficking. His sentence of 42 months, to be served at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, will run concurrent, with his existing time being served.

Morin offered no comment or apology in court. He sat through the proceedings with arms crossed, and only showed emotion when waving to friends and family who were sitting in the gallery.

The court heard that Morin had a psychological dependence on drugs and was high at the time of the incident.

According to lawyers, the shooter in this case was murdered a short time after the incident.

Prince Albert Police have confirmed they are not looking for any suspects, and once they receive the sentence, the case will be closed.
