‘Minor disturbance’ at Sask. Penitentiary resolved: Corrections
A disturbance at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary yesterday afternoon, Jan. 16, was resolved without incident according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
CSC Spokesperson Jeff Campbell said negotiators and the prison’s emergency response team were deployed yesterday to bring an end to what he called “a minor disturbance” in the penitentiary’s maximum-security living unit.
“The situation was resolved without injury to either staff or inmates by about 2:30 p.m.,” Campbell told paNOW in an emailed statement. “Correctional staff are trained to handle difficult situations and safely reach a timely resolution without injuries to themselves or inmates.”
Campbell said the safety of staff, inmates and the public remains CSC’s top priority, and said they will review the circumstances surrounding yesterday’s disturbance.
