Child Find Saskatchewan offering ID clinics in P.A.

Jul 5, 2017 | 2:00 PM

A provincial organization dedicated to help find missing children, set up a booth in the Gateway Mall this afternoon to teach parents what to do if their worst fears are realized.

Colleen Whitedeer, community programs liaison with Child Find Saskatchewan, said the organization has been helping Saskatchewan families for years.

“Child Find has been in Saskatchewan for about 35 years,” she said. “We assist families who have missing or murdered loved ones. Printing, support services, and just getting the word out and building more awareness.”

This afternoon Whitedeer was in Prince Albert to help parents put together ID booklets. The booklets include everything police need to get a head start on a missing person case including height, weight, medical information, details about the parents’ vehicles, and identifying marks. Whitedeer was taking and printing photographs of children so parents have clear, recent images, and was even taking fingerprints.

The service is free, Whitedeer said, and Child Find does not keep records of the information collected so everything stays with the parents.

Although Whitedeer said the organization was not in the city in response to the broad-daylight abduction of an eight-year-old Prince Albert girl from a playground yesterday afternoon, she said the abduction and the resulting Amber Alert show that anyone can go missing at any time.

“That was really scary,” Whitedeer said. “It doesn’t matter your age or ethnicity. It can happen to anybody.”

Whitedeer said she’ll be at Gateway Mall until 4 p.m. today, but all of the information is available on their provincial website.
