Montreal Lake band manager charged with assault

Mark Anthony D’Amato will have his day in court.

He is facing several criminal charges following an incident that happened at his house in the Rural Municipality of Buckland on Jan. 27.

Those charges laid against D’Amato include assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and uttering threats.

He is scheduled to appear at Prince Albert Provincial Court on March 24, and enter a plea.

D’Amato remains employed at Montreal Lake.

When speaking with paNOW, D’Amato said the incident in question had nothing to with band business, but rather was something between himself and his wife.

D’Amato said he thought the matter had been resolved and would be speaking to his lawyer to address the matter.

As of Monday afternoon, the file remained on the provincial court docket.

D’Amato has previously worked for the bands at Cumberland House and Black Lake.

D’Amato has also worked for the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, where he was suspended three times between 2004 and 2005 over allegations of misconduct.

He sued the Federal Government over the affair.

The allegations against D’Amato were never proven and he won his case, receiving settlement money.
