Donny Parenteau set to celebrate release of latest album now and in 100 years

Dec 13, 2012 | 10:57 AM

Although Donny Parenteau’s fifth studio album. Bring It On, will not have its official CD release until Friday, his album has already been preserved in the provincial legislature’s time capsule for 100 years.

Parenteau joked that hopefully, the equipment will still exist for the CD to be played in a hundred years, but said it is an honour to have his album chosen for the time capsule thanks in part to the song Deep in the Heart of Saskatchewan.

“It’s very wild when you think about it and try to comprehend that a hundred years from now, not only will my name be mentioned again, my music will be heard again, (and) the stories behind my song will be heard again by looking at the lyrics,” said Parenteau.

He said by the album being placed for future generations to discover in the time capsule, he has achieved one of the promises he made to his late-father by taking the family as far as he could.

“A person can take your family name physically as far as you can during the time you’re here on earth. But I’m taking this a hundred years from now even farther, by placing it in there (the time capsule),” he said.

He said he intends to pass down a framed photo of his album next to the time capsule to his daughter, and further passed down again to her own children, as a memento of the occasion.

“My grandchildren and my great grandchildren could be looking at this when they open it up and say hey, that was my grandfather,”

The album will have it’s official CD release on Friday Dec. 14, and will coincide with a Raiders home game at the Art Hauser Centre.

As part of a special promotion, the Raiders will be giving away Parenteau’s latest album to the first 2000 people who enter the arena to see the Raiders vs. the Kootenay Ice.

“This is their (Raiders hockey club) way of saying ‘Merry Christmas thanks for the support’ (to the fans) and they’re giving away my CD at the door,” said Parenteau.

“There are lots of people here in Prince Albert that may not have heard my music yet, and this may give them an opportunity to actually hear what I do,” he said.

Additionally, a CD release cabaret will be held at the Ches Leach Lounge following the game. Free admission is given to those who attended the game.

Paranteau said he hopes the people who have not heard his music but either attend the game, or find out who he is in the year 2112, will still be able to enjoy his music and what he has to offer.

“Sit back and enjoy being entertained, because that’s exactly what I plan on doing,” he said.

He said he wants to have his latest CD, and his previous albums as well, to be available in stores in and around Prince Albert. In mid-November, Parenteau released the album Bring It On on iTunes.
