Buckland firefighters battle house and vehicle fires Sunday

Oct 29, 2026 | 9:54 AM

Buckland Fire and Rescue firefighters had a busy day this past Sunday, responding to a house fire in the morning and a vehicle fire in the evening.

The department said a fire engine, two tanker trucks, a command unit and six firefighters were dispatched to Gobeil Road just before 9 a.m. RCMP, the SPSA emergency response team and power and gas companies were also called in.

Mutual aid was requested from Garden River Fire, which sent another tanker.

The building had already collapsed when crews arrived, as the home had been burning for some time before the fire was reported and was a total loss. Firefighters focused on extinguishing the remaining fire and cooling the site, pumping water from a nearby river to refill the tanker trucks.

An excavator was brought in to remove the tin roof so crews could extinguish the fire underneath.

No injuries were reported. Crews returned to the station at 3:30 p.m. to prepare for the next call, which came in a few hours later.

A vehicle fire was reported on White Star Road West at 8:50 p.m.

Crews arrived to find an abandoned vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Two of the nine responding firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used a 44-millimetre hose line to fight the fire.

Thermal imaging was used to confirm the fire was completely extinguished.

RCMP then called Lakeland Towing to remove the vehicle.
