Harvey “Harold” Agnew, born November 19, 1943, passed away peacefully in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on September 23, 2026, at the age of 82.

Harvey was the youngest of three children born to Harold and Charlotte Agnew of Fenton, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate of 56 years, Barbara “Gail” Agnew; his parents; his sister, Lois Arp; his brother, David (Lorraine) Agnew; his parents-in-law, Bill and Jean Zelenski; and his brother-in-law, Barry (Audrey) Zelenski.

Harvey will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lisa (Garth) Baxter of Newmarket, Ontario, Todd (Raelynn) Agnew of Muskoday, Saskatchewan, and Brent (Cynthia) Agnew of South Lyon, Michigan, USA; and by his nine cherished grandchildren, Brianna, Kaylee, Megan, Taylor, Nicholas, Emma, Nathan, Kennedee, and Kassidee. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Arp of Fenton, Saskatchewan; his sister-in-law, Sharon (Errol) Rude of Headingley, Manitoba; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Raised on the family farm in Fenton, Harvey was a young man with a dream to make his own way beyond farm life. After finishing school, he began his working life with the Department of Natural Resources as a timekeeper from 1961 to 1962. He then joined SaskPower, working as a linesman from 1962 to 1965.

In January 1965, Harvey married the love of his life, Gail. Because life on the road as a linesman was not suited to the home they wished to build together, Harvey began a long and successful career with Canada Safeway from 1965 to 1989. He worked his way from grocery clerk to produce clerk before joining the Meat Department in 1968, where he quickly advanced to Meat Manager. The family settled in Prince Albert in 1971 and remained there until 1989. Although Harvey left the farm as a young man, he returned each fall to help his brother with harvest, where payment was fondly remembered as “beef and beers.”

After 24 years with Safeway, Harvey continued his career with Harvest Meats, based in Calgary, from 1989 to 2006. Having lived in Saskatchewan for their entire lives, the move was a significant change for Harvey and Gail. In 2006, they retired back to Saskatchewan and settled in Saskatoon, where they spent their final years together.

Married at the young ages of 22 and 19, Harvey and Gail shared a love that remained at the center of his life. Gail passed away suddenly in February 2021, and Harvey was deeply heartbroken by her loss. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with her in love eternal and everlasting.

Friends were an important part of Harvey’s life, especially in retirement. He loved to curl and golf for as long as he was able, and he treasured the company of a wonderful circle of friends, whether gathering for 6:00 a.m. coffee or sharing “birdie juice” on the golf course when warranted.

The past year was particularly difficult for Harvey as he faced several serious illnesses with strength and determination. When the fight became too much, he passed peacefully in the compassionate care of the staff at Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon. His family is deeply grateful for their kindness and support.

At Harvey’s request, family and friends are invited to join us and share stories and fond memories at an informal Graveside gathering and interment on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens (210 Wess Rd. Saskatoon, SK).
