Impaired driving charge laid after crash claims life of 16-year-old Shellbrook girl

A two-vehicle crash near Hepburn on Saturday claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl from Shellbrook.

A 22-year-old man from Blaine Lake has since been charged with impaired driving causing death.

Riley Farthing appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Monday.

Saturday night’s collision occurred on Highway 12, north of the Highway 312 intersection.

The RCMP investigation determined a truck and an SUV collided. The teenage girl who was driving the SUV was declared deceased by EMS at the scene.

A passenger in the SUV was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.

Farthing, the driver and sole occupant of the truck, was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.

Rosthern RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
