Another adjournment pushes Métis harvesting rights case into 2027
A Saskatchewan test case that could help clarify where Métis people may exercise constitutionally-protected harvesting rights has been pushed into 2027.
The cases involving Warren Boyer, Oliver Poitras and Harold St. Pierre are now scheduled to continue Jan. 25, 2027, in Meadow Lake Provincial Court. They had most recently been set to return Sept. 14.
The adjournment extends a retrial that defence lawyer Kathy Hodgson-Smith previously hoped would conclude in spring 2026.
“So what we’re hoping is that by April 2, we will have tendered all the evidence from both Crown and defence and been able to make our oral arguments and our written arguments by that time,” she said last year.
