William “Bill” Herron was born in Tisdale, SK, on March 2, 1933, to Minnie and Carl Herron.
He grew up at McKague SK, where he attended Reigate school, along with his siblings. Getting to school was a challenge for the Herron children. It was 2.5 miles, with no roads, so the children would navigate the countryside, trying to find the path with the least amount of snow. Similarly, to go to McKague for groceries or other necessities was a journey of 8 difficult miles.
As a young man Bill went to Weyburn, SK, to find employment, where he also met his future wife, Dorothea Switzer. They had 3 daughters, Cindy, Shelley and Carla.
Throughout his life he had several different employment experiences, working in Weyburn, North Battleford, Nipawin, Yorkton and Prince Albert, SK.
He was a kind, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with a big heart. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him tremendous joy and meant the world to him.
He was a great listener and enjoyed talking with family and friends.
He passed peacefully, with his family by his side, on July 27, 2026, in Prince Albert, SK, where he had resided since 1970.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothea; daughter, Cindy (Kevin); granddaughter, Alicia (Jake); great-granddaughters, Izabella and Sophia; and granddaughter, Justine; daughter, Shelley (Dale); granddaughter, Kristen; and great-grandson, Noah; daughter, Carla; grandson, Brandon; great-grandchildren, Kate, Jack, and Lucy; and grandson, Jeremy; and his siblings Shirley (Alex), Howard, Mabel, Velma (George), and Merle (Rudy).
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Minnie; siblings, Carroll, Muriel and Ray; half-sisters, Evelyn, Irene, and Betty; son-in-law Dwayne; his sisters-in-law, Doreen and Mary-Lou; and his brothers-in-law, Bert, Ivan, Art, Les, Steve, Glen, Albert and Oren.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations in memory of Bill may be directed to the charity of the donors choice.
