Charges upgraded in Turnor Lake murder investigation

As a result of continued investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit, and in consultation with Crown prosecutors, Darian Montgrand’s manslaughter charge has been upgraded to one count of second-degree murder.

Montgrand, 25, is charged in relation to the death of 21-year-old Shalayah Montgrand on May 8. Shortly after 3 a.m., Buffalo Narrows RCMP received a report of an injured female at a residence in Turnor Lake. EMS attended and declared her deceased. Police arrested Darian Montgrand outside of the home.

He is scheduled to appear by CCTV in La Loche Provincial Court Monday.
