“We did a really good job building our staffing capacity at the Leisure Centre this year, so staffing is in a better spot and maybe the best spot the city has ever been in.” 

With the opening of the Kinsmen Water Park, the pool at the Leisure Centre will close on Friday, June 19 to allow for scheduled warranty work and maintenance. Both pools will operate on adjusted schedules with the Water Park moving to regular summer hours after June 19. 

“When these new pools open, there’s always some deficiencies and that’s what the builder is going to address,” he said, speaking to the Leisure Centre’s scheduled warranty work. More information about the transition schedule can be found here. 

The city has also expanded their aquatic programming for this summer and will now offer 780 swimming lesson spots, a number Janes said the city wants to keep growing. 

“I think it’s a life skill that everyone should have is to know how to swim, especially living in Saskatchewan with so many lakes around. We’re really excited to offer the number of lessons we are and we’re constantly looking to increase that.” 

According to Environment Canada, weather will be favourable for some fun in the sun on Friday with temperatures peaking at a high of 24 C with clear skies. Saturday will be cloudy with a high of 25 C, before Sunday brings another sunny day, however the high will only be 18 C. 

School Bookings 

Friday also marks the opening for school bookings, which are available to be made Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Schools interested in securing a booking are asked to contact Aquatics directly at rjanes@citypa.com. 

After-Hours Rentals  

After-hours rentals are now open and can be booked from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily, weather permitting, from June 8 to August 8 at citypa.ca/register. 

For free, quick, and casual cooling off, Prince Albert features several community spray parks, the majority of which are now open as well.

According to the city’s website, the Community Playground Program offered at various parks will run July 2 to August 14.
