Fire claims two cabins at Emma Lake

May 25, 2026 | 10:54 AM

The cause of a weekend fire that destroyed a pair of cabins in the Emma Lake area remains under investigation; however, several sources close to the incident believe it was electrical in nature.

The Lakeland and District Volunteer Fire Department confirmed there were no injuries reported.

On Saturday, at approximately 7:45 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to the scene 14 kilometres west of Christopher Lake. Buckland Fire and Rescue was also called and provided mutual aid with water supply.

Crews were successful in preventing the spread of the fire to other surrounding cabins. Once crews were able to control the blaze and eventually able to extinguish it, SaskPower and SaskEnergy were called in to shut off utilities.

A man who lived nearby and happened to be outside when one of the cabins caught fire knocked on the door to make sure no one was home. He then used his own water hose to spray the structure until fire crews arrived.

According to a social media post by Buckland Fire and Rescue, water supply operations were needed for over three hours to extinguish the fire.

Power outages

On Sunday, as a result of a separate grass fire, a power line was damaged, and power was knocked out for residents in the Christopher Lake, Emma Lake, Murray’s Point, Little Red First Nation and rural areas north of Spruce Home.

The power was restored after 11 p.m.
