Nurturing the future: Protecting kids on the farm
The annual Kids FarmSafe Week, running until May 17, highlights the vital role of farm safety in “Nurturing the Future of Agriculture.”
The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association hosts the event and encourages farm families, farm workers and farming communities to keep kids farm-safe through activities and resources that raise awareness of health and safety risks for children and youth on farms.
Recent Canadian Agricultural Injury Reporting data show 435 children and youth died in farming-related incidents from 1990 to 2020. Children aged one to four had the highest fatality rate.
CASA executive director Sandra Miller said even one child or youth harmed in a farm-related incident is too many.
