Little Red River Park temporarily closed

May 8, 2026 | 1:52 PM

As a precautionary measure, while crews continue to monitor elevated river flows, the City of Prince Albert has temporarily closed off public access to Little Red River Park.

“Current water levels within the park remain manageable; however, forecasts indicate flows may increase over the weekend and into next week as warmer temperatures accelerate upstream snowpack melt,” the city said in a press release.

The temporary closure is intended to protect public safety and allow staff time to prepare should conditions change.

City staff are actively monitoring conditions daily and consulting with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, the Water Security Agency, and other agencies on preventive measures and flood protection strategies.

Crews will be working in the park assessing and implementing measures to help protect park infrastructure and reduce potential impacts if water levels continue to rise.

The playground was built to withstand flooding events.

The project, when undertaken, incorporated durable materials, thoughtful design, and adaptive features intended to minimize damage during periods of high water and reduce recovery time following flooding events.

Residents are asked to respect all closures and signage and avoid entering the park until further notice.
