New equine event debuts in Saskatoon

May 1, 2026 | 3:34 PM

The Equine Experience comes to Prairieland Ag Centre in Saskatoon this weekend

The event, May 2 and 3, is a first of its kind event that brings together hands on horse encounters, live demonstrations, youth programming, and practical learning.

Prairieland Agriculture Manager Leigh Ann Hurlburt said it’s designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and open doors into the horse world. She said the Equine Experience is especially aimed at families, youth, and urban audiences who may not have regular access to horses but have always been fascinated by them.

“This is a brand‑new experience for our city,” Hurlburt said. “It’s about creating moments, especially for kids, where learning feels exciting, horses feel approachable, and a new passion can begin.”

She said there are experiences tailored to all comfort levels, including brushing and leading, riding demos and lessons, horsemanship sessions, and live clinics.

There will also be introductory carriage driving presentations from harnessing to handling.

Veterinarians will lead sessions on emergency preparedness, recognizing pain, and caring for senior horses.

Gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday, and the cost is $10 at the door.
