Spring snowstorm leaves drivers stranded

Apr 8, 2026 | 10:05 AM

As Prince Albert residents begin digging out of Tuesday’s heavy snowfall, there are a number of travel advisories in place.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, travel is not recommended on highways in any direction leaving Prince Albert or Melfort. The warning on the Highway Hotline extends up to Green Lake in the northwest, south to Warman, and east past Hudson Bay and Porcupine Plain.

Highways north of Christopher Lake and around Saskatoon are also snow-covered.

The province’s graders are out, so conditions should hopefully improve throughout the day.

In Prince Albert, snow removal operations are fully underway.

Crews are nearly finished clearing priority emergency routes and continue to make steady progress to clear bus routes. The duration and volume of snowfall have resulted in delays to transit, garbage, and recycling services.

Transit will not be running today however this might change later today as routes get cleared. For updates on service resumption, got to citypa.ca/news/transit-news/.

Due to heavy snow and anticipated melting conditions, today’s Zone 2 garbage pickup has been moved to Friday. Friday’s Zone 4 recycling pickup is cancelled to ensure crews can complete the Zone 2 route.
