It was an evening that brought together healthcare professionals, community leaders, partners and donors who had a shared commitment in strengthening care close to home.

The 2026 Med Gala, presented by MNP, raised $142,376 at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre Friday evening through tickets purchased, sponsorships, and auctions. Entertainment was provided by local comedian Kelly Taylor.

“This night is about what’s possible when a community comes together around healthcare,” said Cody Barnett, CEO of the Boreal Healthcare Foundation (BHF). “A hospital is not defined by its walls; it is defined by what the teams inside are able to do. And what happens next, for patients and families across our region, only happens because of the people in this community.”

The evening also recognized outstanding contributions to healthcare through awards.

Dr. Edmund Royeppen was presented the Outstanding Achievement in Healthcare Award for his clinical leadership and commitment to patient care. Royeppen is a general surgeon who has served Prince Albert since 2003.

The Nursing Excellence Award was presented to Prince Albert’s Jaclyn McDonald.

The BHF said, “Jaclyn is a dedicated maternal health nurse and lactation consultant whose personal experiences, including having two children require NICU care, have deepened her advocacy for maternal mental health and family-centred care. Her work is grounded in empathy and lived experience, supporting families through some of their most vulnerable and transformative moments with compassion and understanding.”

The Victoria Hospital Laboratory Services Team was honoured with the Collaborative Care Award. The team serves as a 24/7 diagnostic hub for northern Saskatchewan. The BHF said the multidisciplinary team performs over 1.6 million tests annually, playing a vital role in timely, accurate care across the region.

“Behind every diagnosis and treatment decision, their work ensures that patients, whether in Prince Albert or the Far North, receive the answers they need when it matters most,” wrote the BHF in a press release.

Funds raised through the event will focus on the Equip the Vic campaign, which will ensure the new hospital in Prince Albert is filled with the equipment required to deliver care from day one.
