Attempted murder

P.A. man charged with attempted murder of police officer near Meadow Lake

Mar 27, 2026 | 10:07 AM

Two people are facing charges after an RCMP member from the Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team was hit by an SUV fleeing from police after running through a stop sign.

Keistein Michell, age 26, is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault of a police officer, failing to stop after an accident, flight from police, failing to comply with an undertaking and impaired driving.

Michell is accused of being the driver of a white SUV that was spotted by the CRT officer driving through a stop sign at the corner of First Avenue and Centre Street in Meadow Lake on March 23, just after noon.

The driver then fled at high speed toward Highway 55, pursued by the officer who attempted to pull him over multiple times to no avail.

At about 1:30 p.m., another officer deployed a tire deflation device on Highway 4, north of the junction with Highway 55.  As the officer was deploying the belt, the driver of the SUV struck them, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries.

The SUV went over the spike belt and officers later found the vehicle, abandoned about four kilometres away.

The man and woman, who had fled on foot, were tracked by the police dog and then arrested.

Deschambeault Lake resident, Jasmine Beatty, 26, is charged with flight from police and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Beatty is also facing car jacking charges out of Prince Albert from the beginning of the month. She was released on bail.

Both were in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 26.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Branch’s Battlefords Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) will continue to investigate with the assistance of Meadow Lake RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT), part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Teams (SERT), and Battlefords RCMP Forensic Identification Services (FIS).
