Drug bust

Meth and other contraband seized at Sask. Pen.

Mar 24, 2026 | 4:20 PM

Staff member vigilance is credited with the discovery of methamphetamine and other banned items being smuggled into the Saskatchewan Penitentiary several days ago.

The institutional value of the seized items is $59,000, according to Correctional Service of Canada.

The packages were found on March 20, but CSC did not release information on how it was being smuggled in.

In the past, people outside the prison have used a variety of methods from drones to slingshots to get items over the fence.

The police have been notified and the institution is investigating.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. This includes ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

CSC has set up a telephone tip line at 1‑866‑780‑3784 for all federal institutions so that it can receive information about activities relating to security at their facilities.

These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates, and staff members working at CSC institutions.
