Dance Blast returns with a bang

Mar 5, 2026 | 5:36 PM

An explosion of talent has taken over the stage of Prince Albert’s EA Rawlinson Centre.

The 12th Annual Dance Blast started Thursday afternoon and runs until Sunday.

Vice-President of the event’s planning committee Paula West-Bates said they have over 500 dancers representing nearly a dozen studios. The dancers come from all corners of the province including La Ronge, Borden, Birch Hills, Nipawin and Saskatoon.

“I feel like every year we grow but we can also only do so many dances in one competition, so we do have to limit it, but we do have studios that reach out to us every year in hopes they can get into our competition,” she said.

Planning for an event of this size is no small feat and West-Bates explained it begins a whole year in advance.

“It takes hours and hours of planning and seeking out sponsorships as well for this event to happen,” she said.

In addition to the obvious fun component, there’s also over $10,000 in awards and scholarships up for grabs.

West-Bates is one of the original members of the planning committee.

“So I have seen dancers grow and become dance teachers. It’s amazing to see the fun and the development of the dancers,” she said.
