Saskatchewan RCMP investigating suspicious death

A 39-year-old woman from Mistawasis First Nation has been identified as the victim of a homicide being investigated by Saskatchewan RCMP.

Her body was discovered while the Prince Albert Police Service’s Forensic Identification Section was investigating a suspicious fire in a tow yard.

On Feb. 4, shortly after 7 a.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a report of a truck stuck in a field approximately 40 kilometres east of Prince Albert, off of Highway 302. The truck had been previously reported as stolen on Jan. 29.

The RCMP had the vehicle towed to a business on 41st Street East. On Feb.7, police received a report that the Prince Albert Police Service had responded to a fire at the same business and that multiple vehicles were burning, including the truck that was towed there earlier in the week. The local fire department extinguished the blazes and determined the cause to be suspicious in nature.

Two days later, RCMP learned that while investigating the fire, Prince Albert Police Service’s Forensic Identification Section located a deceased individual in the truck that had been towed. The death was considered suspicious in nature and that’s when Saskatchewan’s RCMP Homicide Investigation Unit took the lead on the investigation.

The deceased individual was identified as Stacey Badger from Mistawasis Nêhiyawak (Mistawasis First Nation). Her family has been notified and victim services made available to them.

Investigators have checked surrounding neighbourhoods for witnesses and video captured on security cameras and doorbell cameras. Now, they’re asking for the public’s help.

If you have information about this incident, or if you witnessed suspicious activity in the area of 41st Street East in Prince Albert between the evening of Feb. 6 and the morning of Feb. 7, are you asked to contact police immediately.  Investigators also ask anyone who had recent contact with Stacey Badger to contact police.

Saskatchewan RCMP can be contacted by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
