How Raider prospects are doing so far this season

While the Prince Albert Raiders are sitting at the top of the WHL and the top of the CHL Power Rankings, there’s also excitement for the team’s future. Right now, the Raiders have eight players on the roster from the 2023 and 2024 draft classes, and a strong list of players coming up from the 2025 draft.  

2025 Draft Class (15-years-old) 

The Raiders made 11 selections in their regular draft along with two more during the U.S. draft, good for 13 players total. One of those draft picks in 2025 was Tripp Fischer who plays with the Lloydminster Lancers AAA U18 team, but he was traded to the Seattle Thunderbirds as part of the Braeden Cootes acquisition. 

That draft class was lead by Athens Shingoose, who the Raiders took 16th overall. Shingoose, so far this year, has 8G-12A-20P in 23 games at the U18 Prep School level with the RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg team, which leads the team in scoring as a 15-year-old. Shingoose was also called up for a game to the MJHL to play for his hometown Waywayseecapo Wolverines this season. 

Next is defenceman Walker Bergen, who the Raiders selected 39th overall in the second round. Bergen is a member of the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA team here in Saskatchewan, and he has 2G-6A-8P in 34 games from the blueline. The Wolverines are sitting fourth in the SMAAAHL.

2024 Draft Class (16-years-old) 

The Raiders also traded away a member of the 2024 draft class, Knox Burton, to Seattle as part of the earlier mentioned Braeden Cootes trade. Out of the remaining 10 players drafted by the Raiders in 2024, five of them have played at least one game this year for the team including regulars Brock Cripps, Ben Harvey, and Connor Howe. 

Nipawin product Liam Myhre, who the Raiders drafted 49th overall in round three, has battled some injury this year and as a result is second in defensive scoring for the Prince Albert Mintos with 6G-12A-18P in 24 games. Last year, he played three games with the Raiders, but has not appeared this season. 

Kyle Obobaifo was drafted 54th overall by the Raiders in round three, and he’s played five games with the Raiders this year and has his first WHL assist. Back with his Calgary Flames U18 AAA team, they are leading the AEHL and looking to defend their league championship from last season. Despite playing at least four games less than everyone around him, Obobaifo is tied for 10th in league scoring and sits second on his team with 15G-23A-38P in 24 games.

The other two Americans were drafted by the Raiders in 2024, but Gavin Burcar was traded to Spokane where he is currently playing, and Diego Gutierrez was also a part of the Braeden Cootes acquisition from Seattle. 

2023 Draft Class (17-years-old) 

The class of 2023 has the biggest presence on the current roster with the likes of Daxon Rudolph, Riley Boychuk, Bennett Kelly, Steele Bass, and Jonah Sivertson. The Raiders made six other selections in that draft, most notably Ty Meunier who was part of the trade for Brandon Gorzynski.

Out of the 2022 draft class, the only current Raider is Hubert Clarke who the Raiders picked up 230th overall in the 11th round. Six were on the roster at some point in the last two seasons but have been traded away (Luke Moroz, Ryan Gower, Oli Chenier, Dayce Derkatch, Ethan Bibeau, Cooper Anderson). The rest did not attend training camp. 

Out of the 2021 draft class, only Max Heise (3, 55) remains on the team.
