Mintos cruise past Battlefords to snap lengthy skid
The Prince Albert Mintos chalked up their first win of the new year on Wednesday night, dominating the Battlefords Stars 7-3 at the Access Communications Centre.
The win also marks the end of an eight-game losing streak, dating back to Dec. 7, where the Mintos now don a 12-14-3-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record.
P.A. burst out of the gates in the first period where rookie Burke Whitter, in his first AAA game, scored the opening goal less than seven minutes in. That was quickly followed by Cooper Sawatzky on the powerplay to double the lead.
Less than 30 seconds later, Jaxon Brabant got the Battlefords on the board to try and shift the momentum, but rather it lit a fire under the Mintos as Linden Abercrombie and Madden Dell scored back-to-back just a few minutes later, making it 4-1 heading into the second.
