‘You’re gonna learn from it’: vehicle vandal receives 12 months probation

A woman who used a pipe wrench when she vandalized more than 20 vehicles in Prince Albert’s East Hill area has avoided further jail time and won’t have a criminal record if she can complete 12 months probation.

Seanna Fontaine’s case was addressed Friday morning at provincial court. Initially set for trial, the young woman who was facing close to 30 charges, opted instead to enter guilty pleas to four counts of mischief.

Terms of her conditional discharge will include 40 hours of community service, personal counseling, and she must stay away from the 400 blocks of 26th St. E. and 27th St. E.

On May 31, at around 3:30 a.m., police were called to the 400 block of 26 St. E. for a report of a disturbance. Further information stated someone was hitting vehicles with a pipe wrench.

Police quickly responded and located Fontaine.

She spent one night in jail and has been out on bail with no issues.

A local resident told paNOW the majority of the damage was done to the side mirrors, which can be a very expensive venture to repair.

Crown Prosecutor MaryAnne Larson stated Fontaine has no criminal record and the crimes were very out of character for her.

Defense lawyer Ron Piche elaborated by explaining she was experiencing some psychological issues brought on by a dispute over a boy and she was very angry.

He added since then she’s been receiving treatment for her depression and has made tremendous gains.

Accepting the joint submission presented, Judge Harradence asked Fontaine to think about the victims and the costs they would have incurred. He also stated his belief the probation should provide some comfort for the victims.

“You’re gonna learn from it,” he said.

“The most important thing is you don’t do this again.”

Harradence also reminded Fontaine that if she can successfully abide by the terms of the probation, she won’t have a criminal record.
