Carlton ready to host MJ Central in provincial semi-finals

After winning their second straight North Sask. Football League (NSFL) title this past weekend, the Carlton Crusaders are now focused on the semi-final round of the provincial playoffs.

That game is set for Saturday, Nov. 1, at Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert, where Carlton will play host to the victors of the South, the Central Cyclones from Moose Jaw.

Following their finals win over St. Mary, Crusaders head coach Lindsay Strachan said he’s looking forward to their shot at the successors of the south.

“They’ve kind of seemed to roll through that league for most of the year, putting up lots of points and lots of shutouts.”

Carlton and Central are both entering this Saturday’s contest with undefeated seasons on the line.

Carlton’s win streak dates back to the beginning of last season, where they went a perfect 8-0 in 2024 en route to the school’s first-ever football provincial championship. Now this season, the Cru picked up where they left off, posting a perfect 6-0 record through the NSFL regular season and playoffs entering the semi-finals.

Throughout this season, Carlton has outscored their opponents 134-34 with their largest win coming against St. Mary via a 48-0 shutout during the 13th Annual Car Guys Classic.

For Central, they have just one loss between the regular season, playoffs, and provincials over the last two seasons. In 2024, the Cyclones registered a 6-0 record in the regular season and won the South Rural Football League (SRFL) with ease, before meeting their match in the provincial semis versus Saskatoon’s Bishop James Mahoney (BJM), falling 31-3.

This season, the Cyclones have put up some monster numbers on the scoreboard, including a 60-8 win over Estevan, 56-3 over Yorkton, and 42-0 against Swift Current. In total, they’ve outscored opponents 262-46 this season.

At the same time on the other side of the provincial bracket, Saskatoon’s Bishop James Mahoney Saints are off to Regina to take on the F.W. Johnson Wildcats at Leibel Field.

The provincial finals will be played on Saturday, Nov. 8, in either Prince Albert or Moose Jaw.
