5A Boys Soccer Provincials coming to PA this weekend, girls in Saskatoon

Eight of the top high school boys soccer teams will be in Prince Albert this weekend for the 2025 5A Boys Provincial Soccer Championship.

The tournament is set to be hosted by St. Mary within Prime Ministers Park (PMP) and Kinsmen Park beginning on Friday, with a champion being crowned a day later on Saturday.

Despite already making provincials via hosting rights, the Marauders would have also qualified as they won the ‘A’ Regional tournament in very convincing fashion. Regionals took place last weekend at Carlton, where St. Mary dominated with a 5-0 win over Martensville to advance to the finals. There, they steamrolled North Battleford 9-0. Like St. Mary, North Battleford also qualified for provincials since making the regional finals with a 3-2 win over Carlton.

Joining St. Mary and North Battleford at the provincial championships in P.A. are Swift Current, Saskatoon’s St. Joseph High School and Centennial Collegiate, Regina’s LeBoldus and Campbell Collegiate, and A.E. Peacock Collegiate from Moose Jaw.

St. Mary looks to claim the gold on home turf this year after winning silver in Saskatoon in 2024 and bronze in Yorkton in 2022. The last time boys soccer provincials were hosted in Prince Albert was in 2014, where St. Mary finished with a silver after falling to Saskatoon’s Walter Murray, 3-2, in the finals.

The first games are slated for 9 a.m. sharp on Friday, with Centennial facing A.E. Peacock at Kinsmen Park, while St. Mary squares off with LeBoldus at PMP.

St. Mary, Carlton girls to battle in soccer provincials in Saskatoon

As the boys play in Prince Albert, the girls are headed down Highway 11 to Saskatoon this weekend in search of the same prize, the 5A soccer provincial championship.

Both St. Mary and Carlton made the finals this year following their successful runs in the ‘A’ Regional tournament last weekend. Like the boys, the 5A girls regionals were in Prince Albert and St. Mary claimed gold, doing so with a 5-0 win over Carlton in the regional finals. Warman, North Battleford, and Holy Rosary (Lloydminster) also competed at ‘A’ Regionals last weekend but failed to qualify for provincials.

Just like the boys, the provincial tournament will be comprised of the eight best schools across Saskatchewan at the 5A level. Alongside St. Mary and Carlton, that list includes Weyburn, Swift Current, Saskatoon’s St. Joseph and Holy Cross High Schools, and Regina’s O’Neill Catholic High School and Miller Comprehensive.

This year marks the first time in seven years that St. Mary has qualified for the provincial championships in girls soccer, with that tournament coming in Prince Albert in 2018, where they finished fourth. That finish was the last time either St. Mary or Carlton played for a medal in girls soccer, and the last medal was won by Carlton two years prior in 2016, when they claimed silver. The last time St. Mary medaled at provincials was in 2014, when they also won silver. However, St. Mary and Carlton squared off in the 2013 provincial finals in Regina, where Carlton edged St. Mary 1-0 for the gold medal.

St. Mary will kick off their provincial run in Saskatoon at 9 a.m. Friday against O’Neill, while Carlton gets underway at 11 a.m. against Miller.
