Local rowing club seeks new members to help stay afloat
The Prince Albert Drifters Rowing Club has an open invitation for anyone 18 years of age and older to come try their sport.
There will be an open house Monday night at the boathouse located in the 500 block of River St. W. Board chair Shannen Fisher said they would love to boost membership.
“The past two years we were at 20 to 25 members, but we would like to build it to 40 in terms of that would be the most financially efficient and have enough people to keep it going,” she said.
Membership costs are $175 for new members and $190 for annual members to renew, plus all members are required to assist with fundraising. Fisher said all new members are required to take the “Learn to Row” course which involves classes twice a week, for six weeks, depending on weather. The first few hours at least will not involve any activity on the water, but rather people learn about boat safety and how to use the equipment.
