Leason gets game winner for Canada over Czechs at WJC’s
Prince Albert Raiders forward Brett Leason got the game-winning goal Saturday night as Team Canada defeated the Czech Republic 5-1 at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver.
Halfway through the first period, Leason tipped in a Ty Smith shot to break the tie and give Canada a 2-1 lead.
For Leason, that was his third goal and fifth point of the tournament in three games. He had two goals and four points in the 14-0 win over Denmark in Canada’s opener.
Leason’s teammate Ian Scott had backup goaltending duties, but was involved in an amusing off-ice incident. After a puck was cleared into Canada’s bench in the third period, Scott tried to give the puck to a fan, but he didn’t throw it high enough and it hit the glass. Then TSN’s Ray Ferraro picked it up, gave it back to Scott and said “higher Ian, higher!”
