Raiders pour it on in Moose Jaw to extend win streak

Feb 17, 2025 | 6:35 PM

With two big wins to start the four-games-in-five-nights schedule, the Prince Albert Raiders were in Moose Jaw on Family Day Monday to take on the Warriors. The Raiders scored early and often, running away to an 8-2 win.

Rilen Kovacevic was excited to play in his first game as a Raider in the rink he won a WHL championship in last season, and he showed it just 23 seconds in. Ethan Bibeau on the forecheck was able to get the puck back to the half wall for Kovacevic, and he took a hard hit as he centred it for Justice Christensen breaking into the slot, scoring his 19th of the season.

Then at the 4:21 mark, the Raiders would score again. Ty Meunier would collect a loose puck in the left corner, and he’ds send a great pass towards the slot for Riley Boychuk, and he’d tip the puck over the goaltender’s shoulder for his 11th of the season.

Like the Raiders earlier, the Warriors would score on their first shot of the game when Landen Ward put a shot on goal, but Ethan Semeniuk was able to tip it to the side of the goal for Landen McFadden, and he’d pot it into the empty net.

After that, the Raiders continued to roll at 13:13. Christensen would steal a puck in his own zone and send a pass over for Oli Chenier streaking down the right side on a 2-on-1. Chenier stopped up to get the pass across to Niall Crocker on the left, and Crocker’s wrist shot would find the net for his 22nd of the season.

After 1: Raiders 3 – 1 Warriors, shots 16-5 Raiders

The Raiders would pour on pressure in the second period, but they wouldn’t be able to find the back of the net at the 18:48 mark. Another 2-on-1, this time it was an outlet pass from Daxon Rudolph ahead to Kovacevic down the left side, and he’d slow up as he crossed the blueline before sending a picture perfect pass to Crocker, and he’d dance past the goaltender before potting his second of the game and his 23rd of the year.

After 2: Raiders 4 – 1 Warriors, shots 12-8 Raiders, 28-13 Raiders overall

The Warriors would strike first in the third to give them a bit of life at the 5:06 mark. On the powerplay, the puck would get cycled to the right side point where Lynden Lakovic was waiting with time and space, and he’d pick his spot with an expert wrist shot into the back of the net.

From there on out, it was all Raiders, and all Daxon Rudolph. At 12:04, Meunier would enter the zone with a give and go pass with Boychuk on the right wall, and Meunier would fire from the goal line to try and bank it in off the goaltender. Meunier would collect his own rebound in the corner before centering it for Rudolph, and he’d fire it in from the slot for his fifth of the season and the fifth Raiders goal of the game.

Then at 15:32 with the Raiders on their only powerplay of the game. At the left point, Christensen put the puck into the middle for Rudolph, and he’d fire a shot that was going wide before Ethan Bibeau got a tip on it for his eighth of the year.

Just 27 seconds later, the Raiders would score again with what has almost become a set play for the Raiders. From the right side of the blueline, Rudolph put the puck on a tee for Christensen, and he’d blast home his second of the game and 20th of the year.

The final goal of the game may have been the prettiest. Boychuk would try to hit Meunier on the doorstep with a pass, but it missed the mark and came back to Rudolph at the left point. Rudolph gave it back ahead to Meunier, and he turned and fired a great wrist shot from in tight traffic to score his 12th of the season.

FINAL: Raiders 8 – 2 Warriors, shots 12-10 Raiders, 40-23 Raiders overall

Seven Raiders had a multi point game for the Raiders, lead by rookie Daxon Rudolph with 1G-4A on the day. His defensive partner Justice Christensen was next with 2G-2A, and Ty Meunier had 1G-2A. The rest all had two point games, Ethan Bibeau with 1G-1A, Niall Crocker with 2G-0A, Riley Boychuk with 1G-1A (although Dragicevic is credited with one of Boychuk’s assists at the time of this writing), and former Raider Rilen Kovacevic with 0G-2A although he generated a ton of offence in the game.

The Raiders have now won three straight as they head to Brandon to take on the Wheat Kings on Tuesday.
